Launching on a Server!

I'm finally doing it!

Let's face it - I don't really know what I'm doing with this whole server thing - but I'm doing it! I'm reeeeeeeally doing it! Sober-Thoughtz is now functioning and operating on it's own server, not just a shared hosting plan. What does this actually mean? Well, other than the fact I can say I'm reeeally doing it, not much. But it is pretty cool, and it's been rather fun to start learning about how this all works hardware-wise.

Right now, the registration form is broken. I don't know what's going on, really, but I'm nailing it down to email. If you try to create an account and you are returned an error - please be patient. I don't have mail configured on this server yet, I'm mostly going through all the various security-type-things needed. In all honesty, I'm pretty amazed I even got it all migrated and functional. A lot of shit broke. But it's fixed.

Really what this means is that things load faster, code executes quicker, and ultimately, even for just visitors, the website runs a lot quicker. On the community side - HUGE improvements in terms of notification speed, message sending, chatroom delays, posting to the various different parts of the website. Lightning speed versus competing with 5,000,000 other websites that all want to suck on the bandwidth also. Hooray!

So, just for a little news update, if you come across something that's broken, giving an error of some sort, sending you to a page that doesn't feel like it's where you were supposed to go - just be patient. I don't think anyone will be seeing this while it's being fixed, anyway, but - just in case you do, this is why! Especially in regards to registration. Long story short - I can help you with making an account if you desperately want to be included in the beta/testing version of the community.

Otherwise, just be patient. It won't be more than a day or two, and in the meantime, I hope to get some more content rolling. I've posted a little "morning-thoughts" post today, and I'm adding some stuff to the "wall of sobriety" as well. As long as there's some stuff for people to see if they organically make it here - I'm a happy camper.

Thanks all. :)
